Child Care Services is an excellent source for information on what services are available both in Kent and elsewhere.  For more information on various support services provided by the Kent County Council please log onto www.kent.gov.uk.  Other information sources on topics such as child protection, day care developments, Ofsted etc. are listed below:


www.cap.org.uk - Child Accident Prevention Trust is a national charity in the United Kingdom committed to reducing the number of children and young people killed, disabled and seriously injured as a result of accidents.

www.daycaretrust.org.uk - Daycare Trust is the national childcare charity.  They have been working since 1980 to promote high quality affordable childcare for all.

- The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is the UK's leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children.  They have been directly involved in protecting children and campaigning on their behalf since 1884. - NCH improves the lives of the UK's most vulnerable children and young people by offering them diverse, innovative and responsive services and by campaigning for change.  Their projects are varied because they are developed in response to local needs.  They fall into three broad categories.  For children at risk they provide:

  • family centres that specialise in helping families where there is a child protection concern
  • sexual abuse treatment centres
  • residential, foster care and adoption services for children in care
  • schools for children with special educational needs.

For families in need of support they provide:

  • neighbourhood family and community centres
  • short break projects that support disabled children and their families
  • projects for young carers
  • child-focused mediation for divorcing and separating parents
  • services for young children including the government initiative Sure Start.

For vulnerable young people they provide:

  • leaving care services
  • youth justice projects
  • youth homelessness projects
  • projects to prevent school exclusions and truancy.

www.4children.org.uk - Formerly known as Kids Clubs Network, they have re-launched as the national charity dedicated to creating opportunities and building futures for children.  At 4Children they:

  • Develop and shape policy to ensure that all children and families are able to fulfil their potential
  • Develop innovative programmes to tackle issues such as childrens health, social exclusion and crime
  • Provide advice and consultancy for local authorities, schools, employers and Government
  • Improve the quality and sustainability of childcare and other services through training and support
  • Give advice to parents on a range of childrens issues
  • Represent the voice of children at every level
