FAQs

  • Will my child be given a snack? If so, what will they have?

Parents/carers are welcome to provide a healthy snack. However, if a child arrives at the after school club with no snack, a healthy alternative will be provided. Drinks are always available at club.
  • Are your after school clubs Ofsted-registered?

Yes, all our clubs are Ofsted-registered or are in the process of registering. This is important because it not only ensures the quality of care provided but also enables working parents to claim back up to 80% of fees through Working Tax Credits.
  • Who will be looking after my children?

Each after school club is run by experienced, CRB-checked staff in accordance with Ofsted regulations. Each club has a senior club co-ordinator, a deputy club co-ordinator and where necessary an additional playworker. Each after school club works on a ratio of 1 staff member to every 8 children.
  • What will my child be doing at the after school club?

There is a wide range of activities available at the club to promote physical, social and emotional development through play. These include indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts activities, cookery and free play (role play, construction toys etc). Children are encouraged to participate in the activities on offer but the staff also recognise that the children may be tired after the school day and each club also has a comfortable area where the children can just “chill out” and chat with friends.
  • Can my child attend the after school club on a casual basis?

Yes. You must enrol your child at the club to ensure that the staff have all their personal details on file. You must also book your child into the session with the Senior Club Co-ordinator at least 24 hrs in advance. Although we welcome children on a casual basis, please note that children who attend regularly will be given preference on occasions where the session is oversubscribed.
  • What is the best way to pay for sessions at the after school club?

Payment is due in advance of sessions directly to the senior club co-ordinator.
  • Who manages the after school club?

Each after school club is run by a voluntary management group comprised of members of the community who are responsible for the overall management of the club. This ensures that the after school club is not part of a chain and can be tailored to the specific needs of the community. The voluntary management group has a service level agreement with Kent Play Clubs, a registered charity that manages the day-to-day running of the after school club. Each club is financially independent which means any profits can be channelled directly into the after school club.
  • Do you accept Employer Childcare Vouchers?

Yes. You will need to contact Kent Play Clubs to ascertain whether your after school club is registered with the relevant childcare voucher scheme. If it is not, then we shall be happy to register the club to allow you to make use of the vouchers.
  • How do I know that my child will be safe at club?

The safety of the children is paramount at each after school club and a detailed operational file is available to parents/carers on site including policies such as child protection, site security, health and safety and fire evacuation. These policies and procedures help to ensure that quality provision is offered in accordance with Ofsted National Standards.
  • Who do I contact in case of an emergency?

Each after school club has their own mobile in case of an emergency and you should contact the senior club co-ordinator on that number.
  • What happens if my child has an accident at after school club?

If during the course of a session your child has an accident at club, then appropriate action will be taken to ensure that your child is well cared for. There is always a qualified paediatric first aider on site and any accidents are recorded in the accident book which you will be asked to sign on collecting your child from club.
  • What should I do if my child is booked in for a session and is then unable to attend?

As safety is paramount, the parent/carer has responsibility to contact the senior club co-ordinator in the event of their child not attending a pre-booked session. Please do not rely on the school to pass on messages on your behalf.

  • Do you run holiday playschemes?

Some of the after school clubs run holiday playschemes, details of which are available from Kent Play Clubs.
  • What if I have a complaint?

A detailed complaints procedure is contained in the operational file which is available on site and is also included in your welcome pack.
